Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In San Francisco, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Francisco is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

We came for dinner and ordered a variety of dishes. I had the Hinodeya Ramen, while we also shared chicken karaae, takoyaki, and gyoza. For drinks, we tried the Matcha Beer, Yuzu soda, and Ume soda. The ramen was decent, but the broth wasn't particularly memorable. The standout dish was definitely the chicken karaage. It was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and incredibly tender. As for the drinks, it was my first time trying Matcha Beer, and it had a unique and interesting flavor. The Yuzu Soda and Ume Soda were both refreshing and delicious, though they leaned toward the sweeter side.

A small coincidence on my first day in San Francisco turned into my favourite spot. I needed to check in to the hostel but it was too early, so I searched for ramen on Google Maps and found HINODEYA nearby. Good reviews, so I gave it a try. The pork katsu ramen was one of the best I have had, the umami flavour was amazing. On my last day in San Francisco I went back, exactly two weeks later. This time I ordered the Spicy Miso, equally good. What makes this place special is the staff. Genuine, warm, and you feel seen even if you are eating alone. The kitchen staff joke around and seem to enjoy themselves, and that energy spreads through the whole room. A nice detail: when guests arrive, the staff beat a taiko, a traditional Japanese drum with roots in festivals and temple ceremonies. Historically it was used to create energy and mark important moments, and here it becomes a personal and memorable way to welcome guests. Two visits, same high standard both times. Highly recommended, and it has also sparked an interest in exploring more Japanese food in Japan itself.ββββββββββββββββ

The food came so fast and was so delicious. The perfect lunch place. The chicken karaage as a starter was perfectly cooked. And the spicy miso soup was so flavourful. Absolutely loved every sip. The pork belly was slightly crunchy but so tasty.

The Highs: we were seated quickly after we entered. The Brussels sprouts were really good although they were more savory then I'm used to. I'd prefer some balsamic on it. The ramen was really good! The pork (even though I don't typically eat pork) was super tender. The Lows: the noodles in the ramen were a little thicker than I like. It was still really good though. The In-Between: we found this spot online while hanging out by the Ferry Building. It was about a 15 minute walk. Our server was friendly. The food was good. The broth was yummy. I'd come back for sure.

Such an amazing experience dining here! I was solo and sat at the bar. Had the house ramenβ¦seriously some of the best ramen Iβve ever had, and definitely the best Chashu pork Iβve ever had in a ramen. They have little crispyβs you can add to your ramen on the table, DO IT! It elevates the dish so much. Also tried the Matcha Beer. Love matcha so had to give it a try! They whisked matcha in a ceremonial bowl and then added it to my Asahi beer. Paloma was the absolute sweetest server and was the cherry on top to an amazing lunch. She was so sweet and attentive, and made me feel like family! I canβt wait to come back here.
